General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland (depending on local referral patterns). In addition to the Surgery Residency, we also have a 2-year ACGME accredited Vascular Surgery Fellowship as well as a 2-year ACGME accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship. Training consists of a minimum of five years of postgraduate education in general surgery training in an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency training program (this training may be reduced to four years in select training programs for those pursuing certain fellowships).
